The interview process that doubles your chances of sucessful hiring in Japan

A well-designed interview process that improves information sharing and ensure a successful hire of suitable talent.

1. Create casual interview opportunities. In Japan, it is very common to have a casual video call before a formal interview. The purpose of this call is to help talent understand more about your company, culture, position etc, and it provides an opportunity for employers to appeal to the candidates.
2. Take care of your candidate experience. All interviewers need to be well prepared. Japan is a candidate-driven market, and the interview is a two-way assessment. Make the interview informative, attractive, and friendly: Be polite, kind, and friendly, and actively share the attractive parts about the job to the candidates.
3. Ensure an efficient interview process. Make sure all candidate information (including CVs, emails, interview feedback, notes from recruiters, etc.) is shared with all interviewers. Avoiding repeating questions and more information would be shared from both sides.
4. Shorten the interview process. We suggest up to 6 rounds of interviews for senior positions and 3 rounds for middle-level positions. Be aware that candidates can accept other offers in any stage of your hiring process.
5. Make it easy. Approximately 95% of first-round interviews in the tech industry are conducted online, as it is convenient and easy to organize.
6. Be consistent and organized. Be mindful about changing the time or interviewer at the last minute; an impression of being organized and consistent will increase the chances of the candidate accepting the offer in the end.
